Rules of Indian Rummy
🎯 Objective
- Each player is dealt 13 tiles and must form sequences or sets as quickly as possible, then be the first to ‘declare’ victory.
🃏 Hand Types
- Sequence: Consecutive numbers of the same suit (e.g. ♥5, ♥6, ♥7).
- Triple: Three tiles of the same rank (e.g. ♠K, ♥K, ♣K).
- Straight: A sequence of tiles without any wild cards (at least one must be present in each set).
- Wild Cards: Can be used as any tile (including randomly drawn tiles and Jokers).
🎮 Gameplay
- Each player is dealt 13 cards. The remaining cards form the draw pile, and one card is turned face-up to form the discard pile.
- On your turn, draw one card from the draw pile or the discard pile, then discard one card (to maintain 13 cards).
- If all cards in your hand form valid combinations (at least two straights, one of which must be a straight flush), click ‘Declare’ to reveal your hand.
- If the system verifies the hand successfully, you win; otherwise, you incur a penalty.
💯 Scoring
- Cards not part of a combination: A, K, Q and J are worth 10 points; number cards are worth their face value.
- Wild cards are worth 0 points.
- The first player to reduce their score to 0 (or reach the target score) wins.
- Detailed rules for other variants (such as Gin Rummy and Pool Rummy) can be viewed within the game.

Frequently Asked Questions
Rummy is a classic Indian card game in which the aim is to arrange the 13 cards in your hand into valid sequences (consecutive cards of the same suit) and sets (cards of the same rank but different suits).
The round ends when you successfully arrange all your cards into valid combinations (including at least one run) and declare victory.
A pure sequence is a run of cards of the same suit containing no wild cards (e.g. 5♥, 6♥, 7♥). It is an essential requirement for winning; without a pure sequence, victory cannot be claimed.
A Joker can substitute for any missing card to help you complete a hand, but cannot be used to form a straight. Using Jokers wisely can significantly increase your chances of winning.
The scoring rules form the basis for determining the points awarded to the winner (or deducted from the loser):
- Number cards (2–10): equal to their face value.
- Face cards (J, Q, K): each worth 10 points.
- Ace (A): usually worth 10 points (in some variations, it is worth 1 or 15 points; please refer to the specific rules in use).
The risk: Once an opponent has declared victory, the total value of all cards in your hand that have not formed a valid combination will be added together to form your penalty score.
Strategy: High-value cards (such as K, Q, J and A) can become a significant liability if they cannot be incorporated into a combination quickly. It is therefore wise to discard them as early as possible, or to use a Joker to form a combination with them swiftly, to avoid incurring a high penalty score at the end of the game.
In India, the card game Rami is legal in most states, as it is classified as a game of skill rather than a game of chance. However, there may be restrictions in states such as Assam, Odisha, Telangana and Tamil Nadu, so please ensure that participation is permitted in your area. Please choose a reputable platform, start with the free mode, play responsibly, and gamble within your means.
